Sydney Kings January Games - 16, 23 & 30 January

The Sydey Kings are back!

Event Calendar

Fans have been placed at the front of the queue with the release of the 2021-22 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season schedule.

In what is set to be a blockbuster opening round for the Kings, the reigning Champions Melbourne United and their newly signed Boomer and former NBA star Matt Dellavedova will help the Kings open their NBL22 campaign at Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday December 5.

Other highlights to the Kings home schedule include ten family friendly Sunday afternoon games, three Saturday games and a minimum of six double-header games locked in with the Brydens Sydney Uni Flames which Kings ticket holders will have access to. The Kings will also host five games during the school holiday period, including an inaugural Boxing Day clash.

With one of the most talented and exciting young rosters in the league, Kings fans have already shown their eagerness for the season ahead with more than 800 memberships being sold yesterday as part of the Club’s Freedom Day sale.

Kings CEO Chris Pongrass is looking forward to welcoming Sydney fans back through the doors to Qudos Bank Arena in just a few short months.

“We are thrilled to be announcing our schedule for the upcoming NBL22 season – something that has been long awaited by our members, corporates, sponsors and fans”, Pongrass said.

“Sydney and broader NSW have had a challenging couple of months, but with restrictions easing and live basketball returning to the Hoops Capital, the anticipation for the season is higher than ever before – we all have something to look forward to starting in December.

“The off-season has been a major success from a basketball perspective – recruiting a new Head Coach Chase Buford, re-signing multiple key pieces from NBL21 in Xavier Cooks and Jarell Martin, a fresh set of NBA-calibre talent in Jaylen Adams, RJ Hunter and MK Maker, along with a number of electrifying young prospects.
“This upcoming season we are excited about the prospect of at least six double-header games with the Brydens Sydney Uni Flames. Unable to activate these games last season, it was a priority for us to have Kings and Flames playing together and allow our fans the opportunity to experience both of Sydney’s professional basketball teams in the one venue.

“Our players are eager to play in front of the best fans in the best arena in Australia, Qudos Bank Arena. Fans can be rest assured that we will continue to take all necessary precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

“We cannot wait to see all of our members and fans at games – be sure to get your membership soon, the best seats are selling fast”, Pongrass added.

Under the league’s new broadcast deal, all games will be broadcast live on ESPN via Kayo and Foxtel, and the 1pm and 3pm Sunday games will also be simulcast live on 10 Peach. As was the case last season however, the priority remains on maximising the amount of fans and members getting back into stadiums to see their teams play.

“While it’s only a few weeks later than we originally planned, the new start date gives us a greater level of comfort and flexibility as we navigate through the current environment and prioritise having our growing number of fans courtside around the country and in New Zealand,” Hungry Jack’s NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said.

“The NBL is a fan-first product and playing in front of crowds is vital for the league and our clubs. Giving supporters an even better chance of seeing their teams compete at home was a key driver in moving things back slightly and in how we’ve structured the schedule”.

The NBL has adopted a flexible approach with contingencies built into the schedule for when borders reopen, vaccination rates reach state targets, venues become unavailable due to other events, lockdown rules ease and crowds are allowed back in arenas.

“There are a lot of factors to consider, and we’ve tried to plan for them all, so as some or all of those various events unfold and begin to materialise, we will enter a different phase of the schedule and certain things change as a result and as we deem necessary,” Loeliger explained.

“We are confident that as the country opens back up, our schedule will open up with it and we will get back to running the competition like we used to with all teams playing and traveling from their home bases.

“We want to thank the fans, players, staff, clubs, partners and all our key stakeholders for their patience and cooperation and know they’ll share in this exciting announcement as we reveal the season schedule and forge ahead with what promises to be one of the most highly anticipated seasons in our history” Loeliger added.
